Accomodation

The conference takes place in the center of Amsterdam, the first two days in KIT which is a well-equipped research institute in the east of the city center. On the third day the sessions take place in the university quarter, not far from Dam Square. Hotels in the center are quite expensive, even the Airbnb options. We recommend that participants book early. It may also be wise to look for hotels or Airbnb outside the city center. In Amsterdam West, East, South-East and North facilities are usually cheaper and within 30 minutes the public transport will take you to the city center.
There aren’t any no-go-area’s in Amsterdam, however I wouldn’t spend the night in parks or in the forest 😉 … and please be aware of pickpockets and fraud.

The UvA and VU do not have a campus with dormitories or student rooms, as is the case in some other countries. There are cheap hostels however in the city. Booking early is advisable, cancelling is often free within a limited period. It is even an option to spend the night in another town outside of Amsterdam, the distances are easy to bridge in this small country. Haarlem, Purmerend, Amstelveen and Zaandam take you by train to the center of Amsterdam in less than half an hour. Zandvoort aan Zee, on the coast, is also an interesting place to stay and has a train station. And even the beautiful city of Utrecht is only 25 minutes by train.

There are B & B’s and other budget options. Amsterdam is a very crowded city so bookings should be made at an early stage.

Distances are measured in regard to the main venue, the KIT-building. The distance between KIT and the University Quarter is only 2,3 kilometer. There is plenty of public transport available.
